World of Warcraft Fishing: Dinner is Served

In World of Warcraft, characters are completely customizable. From class to race, weapons to armor, players have the ability to create a character they are both proud of and can empathize with. Characters are often reflections of the players themselves, and therefore, players take their characters seriously. One element World of Warcraft includes in game play that many fantasy, multi-player role playing games neglect is the use of professions. Professions can be chosen regardless of class or race; they are skills that can be learned over time, and that can prove lucrative down the road. Professions are divided into two categories: collecting and production. Characters can have up to two primary professions and any or all of the three secondary professions. Primary professions yield craft items that can be sold directly for gold, while secondary professions, while not monetarily profitable, can help the character in numerous ways.

World of Warcraft fishing is an often-forgotten secondary profession. It allows the character to fish, usually for fish, from most surfaces of water. World of Warcraft fishing usually results in raw fish, directly edible. However, characters do not always fish for fish. World of Warcraft fishing can result in equipment, chests, gems, herbs and fish-related items. Some of these items are valuable reagents used by spell casters, while others are just useful to have around.

The Art of World of Warcraft Fishing

World of Warcraft fishing can be practiced with specific trainers and requires a fishing pole. Fishing poles are available at most general trade vendors. A character’s fishing skill will increase over time as more and more fish are successfully caught, and some water surfaces require a specific fishing level in order to be utilized.

Available fish change according to region and time of day. Schools of fish can yield special gifts and bonuses if a character’s cast lands on-target, and even bosses can be found through World of Warcraft fishing. A character’s fishing level can be increased with the use of certain equipment, fishing poles and lures, and sometimes these extra statistics are necessary when fishing for certain items.

The Stranglehorn Fishing Extravaganza is a World of Warcraft fishing event held every Sunday. Players must search specifically for schools of Tastyfish. If the player’s lure lands directly inside the school, a Tastyfish will be caught. The first character to catch forty Tastyfish wins additional World of Warcraft fishing skill points, or is turned into a fish. Tastyfish can be turned in for silver, and other rare fish can also be caught in the Tastyfish schools, adding to the prizes available for Stranglehorn Fishing Extravaganza participants.
